Ajay Devgn’s much-anticipated film ‘Raid 2’ was
released on May 1, 2025, but it hasn't lived up to the box office
expectations.
The situation in Bollywood is quite dramatic in 2025, with
insiders seemingly determined to pull each other down. Karan Johar has openly
declared that no one can stop him from promoting star kids, prompting
sarcastic additions from critics saying, "even if it means destroying
the industry." Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn launched his 15-year-old
son, Yug Devgn, marking his entry into the industry through a dubbing role
in the Hindi version of "Karate Kid: Legends". Both father and
son appeared together at the trailer launch event.
‘Raid 2’ – A Sequel That Fell Short
Despite being the sequel to the blockbuster 2018 film ‘Raid’, ‘Raid
2’ failed to replicate the magic. While the film did show some strength
initially, it couldn’t sustain momentum.
Weekly-Wise Box Office Collection:
Week 1 (May 1–8, 2025):
Despite aggressive promotion, Raid 2 managed to earn around ₹96 crore in its first week. Most of this came from holiday releases and initial fan hype.Week 2 (May 9–15, 2025):
With no major release in the second week, Raid 2 had a free run. Yet, surprisingly, the collections dropped by over 50%. It added only ₹40 crore to its kitty.Total in 16 Days (till May 16, 2025):
As per Sacnilk reports, the film has collected only ₹136 crore in 16 days.Producers' Earnings:
After distribution cuts, satellite rights, and taxes,
the producer’s share is estimated to be around ₹45 crore, a
disappointing figure considering the star power and promotion.
PR Games and Audience Mistrust
Interestingly, multiplexes owned or backed by Ajay Devgn
were showing "house full" signs. However, media access to verify
actual occupancy was restricted. The PR team and several "samosa
critics" (paid influencers) tried to paint Raid 2 as a superhit
on social media, but the reality tells a different story.
The producers haven't even disclosed the official budget
of the film, raising further suspicion about the numbers being floated.
Yug Devgn’s Debut in ‘Karate Kid: Legends’
While Raid 2 struggled, Ajay Devgn also appeared
with his son Yug at the press conference for 'Karate Kid: Legends', the
film set for release on May 30, 2025, in Hindi, English, Tamil, and
Telugu. Both father and son have lent their voices to different characters in
the Hindi version. This marks Yug Devgn’s entry into Bollywood, adding to
the ongoing nepotism debate.
